The Ministry of Health and Wellness and its partners presents the Healthy Parenting Expo (PHHPE) scheduled to take place on May 17-18 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Complex.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness has identified perinatal mental health as a priority area of unmet need. Perinatal mental health, the mental and emotional well-being of parents during pregnancy and the first year of baby’s life—significantly impact not only the individual but also the development and long-term health of children.
In an effort to meet this need, a Perinatal Mental Health Action Plan was developed, with a public awareness campaign entitled The Hand Over Heart – Promise to Parent. The Hand Over Heart – Promise to Parent campaign is a dedicated initiative to support perinatal mental health for new parents across Barbados. As a part of the campaign, we plan to host the Healthy Parenting Expo, one of the sentinel events. This expo, that will be free to the public, will be educational, interactive, and offer an outreach opportunity for the promotion of wellness and healthy parenting.
Our conference theme is: The Hand Over Heart – Promise to Parent.
This two-day conference will center on:
- Strengthening Families: Creating a Foundation for a Healthy Future Together
- Equipping Parents: Strategies for Building Resilient and Thriving Families
The audience will consist of prospective parents, current parents, and community members. Alongside the main conference, attendees can participate in practical and informative workshops, including an infant and child CPR demonstration, a session on effective co-parenting, and a discussion on breastfeeding and child nutrition to help prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
