3 December 2022, 9am – 5pm

3Ws Pavilion, UWI, St. Michael

STEMI care in Barbados- focus on systems of care and urgent care management.

Data from the Barbados national registry of noncommunicable diseases (BNR) reveal that the mortality from myocardial infarction in Barbados is unacceptable high: higher than that of most developed countries. In this CME, we explore that management of myocardial infarction in Barbados, with special focus on ST elevation myocardial infarction: from pathophysiology, systems of care and particularly management in the out-of-hospital/urgent care setting.

In the second half the day we will conduct a workshop/ roundtable on barriers and solutions for  implementation of a thrombolytic care pathway

The goal of this CME is to explore ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) treatment in Barbados, its pathophysiology, contemporary management, treatment outside the hospital and more. Barbados is seeking to make specific treatments for myocardial infarction available at several private emergency facilities, saving more lives.
