Erin Sabato is the current Director of International Service and Learning at Quinnipiac University.  She has earned her BA, Quinnipiac University and MA, University for Peace.

2nd Annual Sexual & Reproductive Health Conference

The Barbados Family Planning Association presents its second annual medical conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health in the Caribbean. The goal of this conference is to provide an opportunity for information sharing of current sexual and reproductive health practices, psychosocial perspectives, patient considerations and barriers to care. Topics explored include contraception, sexual assault, STIs, adolescent and transgender health and more. Guest speakers include MD candidates from the Quinnipiac University in Connecticut – Professors Kaitlin Renkosaiak, Devon Soucier and Zara Khan who will share on aspects of maternal mortality, prenatal counselling and contraception.

All health care providers, social workers, counsellors and other sexual & reproductive health stakeholders are invited to attend.

Dr Akshai Mansingh is Dean of the new Faculty of Sport at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and he took the position from August 2017.

A Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Physician, Dr. Mansingh has looked after elite athletes throughout the region. A graduate of The UWI, Dr Mansingh earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and his Doctor of Medicine, Orthopaedics degrees at the Mona campus. He also holds a Master’s in Sports Medicine from the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Dr Mansingh has been a lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Sports Medicine in Radiology, Anaesthetics and Intensive Care at The UWI, Mona since 2007.  He is also the author of numerous publications in his various specialisations and has written on Methods for Injury Surveillance in International Cricket among many other cricket and sport science themes.

Dr. Valerie Baskerville, Podiatrist

Dr. Baskerville received her B.A. in Biology from Loyola University of Chicago. She graduated from the William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1993. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics  and Primary Podiatric Medicine (ABPOPPM), Board Qualified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, has received her BLS Certification, and is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician of the American Board of Wound Management. She was served as a Board Member to the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association (MPMA) Southeast Division from 1996 to 1999 as well as a member of the MPMA Peer Review Committee and the ABPOPPM Board Certification Exam Committee. Dr. Baskerville was extensively involved in the Michigan community, including conducting health screenings for the American Diabetes Association.

This medical education event will look at improving foot care and preventing ulceration through appropriate care, advice management and timely referral to the appropriate care providers. Spa technicians are key partners in the timely referral process. Although not medical professionals, spa & beauty professionals often have the opportunity to handle feet quite frequently, and if trained appropriately can play an integral part in timely referral and prevention of ulcers and other foot complications.
