Dr John Barker Bsc MBBS DFSRH Dip RISK MRCOG

Dr John Barker is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and a Consultant in the UK and is currently a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and Director at JRB Medical Centre. He has completed his Postgraduate Training in the UK via the Mersey Deanery Rotation (Liverpool).

His areas of expertise are

• Gynaecological Oncology and Colposcopy – he has completed Advanced Training Skill Modules (ATSM’s) and evaluates suspected and confirmed gynaecological cancer patients, triages and treats.

• Alternatives to Hysterectomy – Hysteroscopic treatment for fibroids (submucosal fibroid resection), endometrial ablation and transcervical resection of the endometrium for heavy menstrual bleeding.

• Minimal access surgery – Laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic management of common gynaecological conditions.

• Office Gynaecology – Outpatient Hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation.

• Emergency Gynaecology – Emergency gynaecological care for women is about stream lining the level of care by having a specialised facility for women offering all aspects of emergency gynaecological care, it is associated with decreased hospital admissions, cost and time of diagnosis to treatment.

The Annual Women’s Health Medical Conference focuses on women’s health issues in Barbados, the Caribbean and beyond. The health of women determines the health of the nation and special attention must be given to this aspect of health.

This year’s conference will feature Gynaecolgists Dr. John Barker, Dr. Natisha Robinson and Dr. Nicole Durham who will cover a range of topics including Alternatives to Hysterectomy, Post Menopausal Bleeding, Pregnancy & Obesity and other OBGYN topics.  Other areas will explore Heart Disease, Mental Health & Medicolegal issues. Doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and other interested persons are invited to attend.  CPE credit is available.

Prof. Margaret Anne St. John has held the posts of Senior Registrar,Department of Paediatrics QEH, and Consultant from 1981 until the present time. She served as Head, Department of Paediatrics, from 1993 to 2000, and was also appointed Associate Lecturer in Paediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences (Cave Hill Campus, UWI) from 1980 and an Hon Professor, Dept of Child Health in 2010.

Having graduated with an MB. BS. Degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Mona Capus, University of the West Indies, Anne returned to Barbados,

completed a residency in Paediatrics and a 1 year Paediatric Ambulatory Fellowship at Kings County/Downstate Medical Centre, Brooklyn. This was followed by a year as a Senior Resident and Fellowship in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the prestigiuos Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. She attained postgraduate qualifications of the American Board of Paediatrics, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

In 1980 Dr. St. John resettled in Barbados and held the posts of Senior Registrar, Department of Paediatrics Queen Elizabeth Hosipital (QEH), and Consultant from 1981 until the present time. She served as Head, Department of Paediatrics, from 1993 to 2000, and was also appointed Associate Lecturer in Paediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences (Cave Hill Campus, UWI) from 1980 and an Hon. Professor, Dept of Child Health in 2010.

She has practiced her craft in medicine for the past 42 years with 38 of these dedicated to working in the care of children in the Dept of Paediatrics at the QEH in Barbados.
