Simone McConnie, BSc Pod Med, MChS HPC registered (UK) is a Podiatrist trained in the UK, and has been working in Barbados since 1994. She holds a degree in Podiatric Medicine and MBA from Durham University in 2011. Her main clinical interest is diabetes, and wound care.
She worked at the first established Diabetic Foot Clinic at King’s College Hospital, London, UK in 1993 and has been intimately involved in various projects related to promotion, education and change in diabetes care, whilst pioneering Podiatry as a new Profession in Barbados. She has worked extensively with the International Working Group on the Diabetic foot in association with the Rotary Club of Ledbury, UK and local Rotary clubs of Barbados and the region implementing the “step by step” programme in Barbados and across the region. A founding member and previous Trustee at the Barbados Diabetes Foundation, she currently represents Barbados on the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) and an International working group for strengthening the Podiatry profession Internationally under the auspices of her International professional body The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SOCAP).
She is a member of the American Association of Wound Care (AAWC), The Worldwide Association of Female Professionals and The President of the Barbados Association of Podiatrists. Her topic at the Annual Women’s Health Medical Conference will be Podiatric Issues in Women.
