Dr. Goddard assumed the role of Medical Director in August 2008 but has been a practicing Internist/ Diabetes/ Endocrinologist at the Clinic since 2003. Dr. Goddard is a Consultant Internal/ Diabetes & Endocrinology specialist at BayView Hospital.  Dr. Goddard is former lecturer in Internal Medicine at the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus).

The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados in association with the Healthy Caribbean Coalition and the Breastfeeding & Child Nutrition Foundation will be hosting a public lecture exploring the issue of childhood obesity and its consequences in Barbados and the Caribbean. Children with obesity are at higher risk of developing other chronic health conditions and diseases including asthma, sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes and risk factors for heart disease. Speakers include Prof Anne St. John, Consultant Paediatrician; Dr. Alison Bernard, President, Breastfeeding & Child Health Foundation and Ms. Abigail Clarke, Registered Dietitian. The public is invited to attend.

Prof. Margaret Anne St. John has held the posts of Senior Registrar,Department of Paediatrics QEH, and Consultant from 1981 until the present time. She served as Head, Department of Paediatrics, from 1993 to 2000, and was also appointed Associate Lecturer in Paediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences (Cave Hill Campus, UWI) from 1980 and an Hon Professor, Dept of Child Health in 2010.

Having graduated with an MB. BS. Degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Mona Capus, University of the West Indies, Anne returned to Barbados,

completed a residency in Paediatrics and a 1 year Paediatric Ambulatory Fellowship at Kings County/Downstate Medical Centre, Brooklyn. This was followed by a year as a Senior Resident and Fellowship in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the prestigiuos Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. She attained postgraduate qualifications of the American Board of Paediatrics, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

In 1980 Dr. St. John resettled in Barbados and held the posts of Senior Registrar, Department of Paediatrics Queen Elizabeth Hosipital (QEH), and Consultant from 1981 until the present time. She served as Head, Department of Paediatrics, from 1993 to 2000, and was also appointed Associate Lecturer in Paediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences (Cave Hill Campus, UWI) from 1980 and an Hon. Professor, Dept of Child Health in 2010.

She has practiced her craft in medicine for the past 42 years with 38 of these dedicated to working in the care of children in the Dept of Paediatrics at the QEH in Barbados.

As an Endocrinologist and Biochemist, Prof. Morrison has changed the face of diabetes in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the world.

Professor Morrison’s work is centered around the investigation of medicinal plants used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. He has spearheaded major research and developmental activities related to diabetes care and management and has attracted major funding in this area.
Professor Morrison co-founded the Diabetes Association of Jamaica (DAJ), a private, voluntary, non-profit, non-governmental organization which has as its mandate the responsibility of developing and implementing a nationwide plan for the treatment and education of people with diabetes and for providing education on diabetes prevention and care to the public.It is the only organization of its kind in the Caribbean which offers one-stop care for people with diabetes with laser therapy, kidney dialysis, foot care and pharmaceutical services, all under one roof. He also spearheaded the formation of the Diabetes Association of the Caribbean, which now has 26 member countries from the Spanish, Dutch, and French-speaking territories.

Profile on Dr. Jacqueline King

Dr Jacqueline King has been a pioneer in the field of sports physiotherapy.

Dr King graduated from the School of Physical Therapy at University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica in 1982 with the Diploma of Physical Therapy. She has been one for the first physiotherapists in Barbados to complete the transitional Doctor of Physiotherapy programme, done at Utica College in New York in 2009, and in 2012 became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist.

She has been the Clinical Director/Senior Physiotherapist at Sports & Physical Therapy Clinic, 4th Avenue, Belleville since Dec 1982.

This private physical therapy practice has a staff of five physical therapists contributing to all patient rehabilitation needs.

Along with Dr. Adrian Lorde she cofounded the Barbados Sports Medicine Association, was the first team physiotherapist for Barbados sporting teams at Olympics, CAC, and Commonwealth Games, and has been team physiotherapist for Barbados cricket teams since 1986. She has worked with the West Indies Men’s and Women’s cricket teams (1999 to 2014) and the Sagicor High Performance Centre (2012 to 2014).

Since 1990, Dr King has continuously provided physiotherapy services to all ranks of soldiers of the Barbados Defence Force. She has also provided physical therapy services to the Bayview Hospital since 1989.

Dr King has served on a number of local, regional and international bodies in various capacities. These include the Barbados Sports Medicine Association, Caribbean Association of Sports Medicine, International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), Barbados Physical Therapy Association, World Confederation for Physical Therapy and has presented papers on various topics at their conferences.

Dr. King’s topic will be “General Approaches to Injury Prevention”.

Dr. Colin Alert-Staying in The Game- BSMA June 30-July 1

Guest Speaker: Dr. Colin V. Alert MB BS, DM.

Dr. Alert is a family physician and University of the West Indies Lecturer in Family Medicine. He is also Treasurer with the Barbados Sports Medicine Association, Medical team leader of Team Barbados to previous Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games, Youth Olympics, Youth Commonwealth Games and CAC Games. Dr. Alert will present on the topic “The Pre-participation Examination”,  what all athletes should have done before participating in any sport seriously.
