Screenshot_20180203-173213Menachem Rottem, MD, PhD, is Head of the Allergy Asthma and Immunology Service at the Emek Medical Center, Afula, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. A graduate of the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, Dr Rottem completed a Residency in Pediatrics at Hadassah University Medical Center and an Allergy Immunology Fellowship at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He completed a second Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology as a Clinical Associate at the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation (LCI), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He later returned as a Visiting Scientist to work at the Laboratory of Allergy at the NIAID/NIH.

Dr Rottem is a Past President of the Israeli Association of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (IAACI). He served as Chair of the International Assembly of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and member of several AAAAI and WAO committees.

Dr Rottem is a Regional Editor, for the Joint Region (Africa/Middle East/CIS), of the World Allergy Organization Journal (WAO Journal).

Dr Rottem is an author and co-author of over 70 peer reviewed medical-scientific publications.

Dr Rottem is an expert in many areas of allergy including diagnosis and treatment of Allergic Rhinitis, Asthma, Food Allergy Urticaria and Autoinflammatory diseases.

Coming In June-Sexual and Reproductive Health Conference with US Doctor Willie Parker

Hi Everyone!

One of our most anticipated events in 2018 will be the Sexual and Reproductive Health Conference on June 23 in Barbados.  This event will feature American OB/GYN Willie Parker who is known to specialise in abortions and he is a reproductive justice advocate.

Education and Career

Dr. Parker “is a graduate of Berea College in Kentucky, and holds degrees from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, the Harvard School of Public Health, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Michigan. Board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and trained in preventive medicine and epidemiology through the Centers for Disease Control, Dr. Parker currently provides abortion care for women in AL, MS, PA, GA, and IL, and is the former Medical Director of Planned Parenthood Metropolitan Washington, DC.

He is the physician plaintiff in the federal lawsuit preventing the closure of Mississippi’s only abortion clinic, a case currently in request for hearing by the U.S. Supreme Court.

His work includes a focus on violence against women, sexual assault prevention, and reproductive health rights through advocacy, provision of contraceptive and abortion services, and men’s reproductive health.

He is the chair of the board of Physicians for Reproductive Health, and a board member of The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice and URGE. He was recently honored by the United Nations Office of Human Rights as one of twelve Women’s Human Rights Defenders on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations’ Fourth World Conference on Women. He has also received Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger Award, the organization’s highest award; the “Champions of Choice” Award from NARAL, the oldest abortion rights advocacy group in the US; the George Tiller, MD, Abortion Provider Award from Physicians for Reproductive Health; and the Personal PAC Leadership award, among others.”

In his book, the doctor gives a “frank, illuminating memoir recounts the professional and spiritual paths that led him to give up private practice, obstetrics, a Hawaiian penthouse, and fundamentalism, and to take up the life of an outspoken and courageous itinerant abortion provider”.

Dr. Tracy Van Oss is an associate clinical professor in the Occupational Therapy Department. Tracy has earned a Doctor of Health Science degree, a Master in Public Health degree, a Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Communication and a degree in occupational therapy. She is a Community Health Education Specialist (CHES), and has an AOTA Specialty Certification in Environmental Modification. She is the co-chair of the service learning committee for the university and has developed interprofessional service learning courses focusing on community based health and wellness in local and international venues. She has also earned a certificate in experiential education from the National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) and works to engage her students into real world scenarios.

Profile

Professor Barbara Nadeau is the Clinical Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy at Quinnipiac University. She was educated at Lesley University where she earned her Doctorate in Adult Learning. She also attended the University of Hartford (Master’s in Neuroscience) and University of Wisconsin (Bachelors in Therapy).

She is currently President at the Brain Injury Solutions.   There, she provides cognitive rehabilitation for teens, adults and older adults who have cognitive changes due to any type of acquired brain injury (concussion, stroke, TBI etc).

Her topic at Rehabiliation and Chronic Disease, Saturday January 13, 2018 will be CVA a Chronic Disease Defining Outcomes.

Chronic disease causes a high degree of illness and disability in Barbados. It is often necessary to have a “Chronic Disease Management Programme” that involves a multidisciplinary approach to care. Rehabilitation is an integral part of such a programme and restoration of health and functionality is critical. Whether it be in the form of occupational therapy, physical therapy, pain management or other modalities rehabilitation in chronic disease management is a must.

This CME explores aspects of rehabilitation and chronic disease specific to diabetes, stroke and other chronic conditions. It is suitable for rehabilitation professionals, physicians, nurses and other key players in the multidisciplinary team. Guest speakers include faculty from the Occupational and Physical Therapy Departments at Quinnipiac University, Connecticut.
